Toksen
The origin of Toksen bodywork is credited to the farmers of Thailand. After a long day’s work on the farm, the were in need of some pain relief. Not having access to all the stretching and compression techniques of Traditional Thai massage, the farmers evolved a more simple technique.
A wooden hammer is used to strike a mallet as it moves along the Sen (channels). Its rhythmic tapping and sound have not only a deep vibrational effect on the fascia of the body, but also induces deep relaxation with its steady staccato sound. The rhythm helps to open the channels and free any myofascial adhesions or other chronic pain disorders.
Legend says that the best Tok Sen mallet and hammer comes from the wood of a tamarind tree struck by lighting. Once carved, a Buddhist monk blesses it, giving it special healing powers. We are on the lookout for a tamarind tree that has been struck by lighting. In the meanwhile we will provide students a free wooden mallet and hammer made from more commonly available wood!

I studied Level 1 & Level 2 courses at The School of Thai Yoga Massage. Whilst searching for a suitable course on the internet, I was particularly drawn to the small class sizes (low Student to Teacher ratio) and the supporting information that was provided during the course. Cyriac strongly promotes the benefit of learning about the anatomy of the body to enhance your practice. We were provided with a course book which contained detailed imagery of the neuro-muscular and skeletal body systems and during the class a digital software system was also utilized to deepen our anatomical outstanding. The course also described the origins and history of massage, professional etiquette and the treatment of specific ailments. We were constantly encouraged to develop our practice by working on fellow students and teachers alike. This provided valuable feedback on my own practice and, in addition, meant that we were all treated to several calming massages each day – a wonderful bonus! 🙂 Cyriac’s teaching style is calm, enthusiastic and he recognizes the needs of each student and supports them fully throughout the course. I highly recommend the School of Thai Massage.

I’ve been practicing massage therapy for 6+ years (mostly Swedish, trigger point, Reflexology, etc.) and had actually been considering making a career change. When I saw this course advertised I was so excited and inspired by this alternative way of working with people and their bodies. Since taking the class I have found a new energy and excitement with my work, and my clients continue to be pleased and amazed at the differences they feel. Cyriac is an awesome teacher and I love this style of personal attention during each session. The added bonus of being able to retake the course and practice with him will continue to enhance my work, I’m thrilled that this has added new energy and probably several more years to my practice.

I definitely recommend this school, once helped me to develop and deepen my skills in Thai Yoga massage and putting them into practice. Cyriac is a magnificent teacher with sensibility and anatomical, physiological, neurological and spiritual knowledge. He is always available to help. Even now, that I’m working as Thai massage healer, when I have doubts or step for new experiences I get in touch with him via email and sends me your opinion.
